Lisoril is prescribed for managing high blood pressure either on its own or in conjunction with other medications. It is also utilized together with other drugs to address heart failure or enhance survival rates post-heart attack. Additionally, it may be prescribed for other ailments as deemed appropriate by your healthcare provider.

Lisoril is available in tablet form to be taken orally, typically once daily. To ensure you remember to take Lisoril, it’s advisable to do so at the same time each day. Carefully adhere to the instructions provided on your prescription label and consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions. It is essential to take Lisoril exactly as instructed. Avoid taking more or less than the prescribed dose or taking it more frequently than your doctor has recommended.

Your healthcare provider will likely begin your treatment with a low dose of Lisoril and may gradually increase it. While Lisoril manages high blood pressure and heart failure, it does not provide a cure for these conditions. Keep taking Lisoril even if you feel fine, and do not discontinue use without discussing it first with your doctor.

Lisoril is indicated for treating high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6 and older, including cases of renovascular issues, stable acute myocardial infarction, heart failure (as an adjunct therapy), and diabetic nephropathy. The medication works by relaxing and widening blood vessels, which can help prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney complications. It is also used following recovery from an acute myocardial event and is often prescribed alongside other medications (such as diuretics and digoxin) for heart failure. Lisoril belongs to a category of drugs known as ACE inhibitors.

For adults, Lisoril should be taken once daily. The dose is tailored to the individual, based on clinical indications, renal function, and any other treatments being administered. Generally, the starting dose ranges from 2.5 to 5 mg, with a typical maintenance dose between 5 and 20 mg, and a maximum allowable dose of 80 mg per day.

Treatment should occur under consistent medical oversight (monitoring of water-electrolyte balance). During treatment, it’s necessary to regularly check blood pressure, protein levels, plasma potassium, urea nitrogen, creatinine, renal function, blood counts, body weight, and dietary habits. Caution is advised during surgical procedures (including dental work), particularly when using general anesthetics that may lower blood pressure.

Potential side effects include cough, dizziness, headaches, excessive fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, weakness, sneezing, runny nose, reduced sexual ability, and rash.
